When you find yourself drowning and stressing from your work load, that’s the time that you need to go back to the basics because it simply means it has made your fundamentals of programming are slowly fading away.

A career in programming is one of those jobs that transform you into a zombie. It requires long hours of work which results to sleep deprivation and chronic stress. This situation can be lessened through coding effectively and efficiently through these tips:

1

A CLEAN WORKSPACE

Based on scientific and psychological studies, the sight of a messy surrounding will result to easy annoyance and the wearing down of mental resources thus making you stressed and frustrated. Keeping your workspace clean and tidy will undoubtedly help you focus and finish your work faster.
2

SET A REALISTIC DEADLINE

As much as having a tidy workspace is an essential when you’re working, setting a deadline is also one important factor when working. Keeping your tasks organized and on track will help you remove the word “cramming” on your vocabulary and it will undoubtedly help you meet your deadlines on time.
3

FOCUS ON YOUR LANGUAGE

This is one way of starting off your work with a boost. Choosing and using a language that you are knowledgeable at and are comfortable using is already an advantage. This serves as your primary and key skill when you proceed to battle.
4

TURN OFF ALL DISTRACTIONS

After you have set yourself in the mood for work, the last thing you need to do before you can start coding is to remove all the things that would distract you and would make you pay less attention with your task.
5

CLEAN, SIMPLE AND UNDERSTANDABLE

These three elements are what your code needs to be. Write your code in a manner that it will be convenient for you and for everyone who will benefit from your work.
6

ANALYZE YOUR CODE

Be the first one to analyze your code! Dissect it to its very core and do not stop looking for improvements. Be the first one to judge and criticize your work so that you would help and save others from the headache of going over thousands of codes.
7

BE PATIENT

Coding indeed does eat a lot of your personal time, all programmers are very well aware of this. Every time this will happen, what you need the most is patience. Patience equates to productivity thus work progress will increase, and when this happens, you have already finished your task before you know it.
8

TAKE A BREAK

Since that stress and frustration while coding is unavoidable, what programmers can do to somehow lessen these is to take a deep breathe and rest. Taking a break is always free and beneficial as long as one knows how to use it properly.
9

DO YOUR RESEARCH

After you’ve finished coding and taking a break, it’s time to look for other sources and references that would help you become a better programmer. Remember that there’s always room for improvement and programming is a never ending process of learning.
